The Automotive Skills Development Council (ASDC) is the first sector skill council of India, promoted by the Automobile industry through Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA) and Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA) and Government of India represented by Department of Heavy Industry and National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

ASDC was incorporated as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in March 2011.

Mission

To make India self sufficient in availability of skilled manpower for sustaining growth and increasing competitiveness of the Auto Industry.

Mandate

The Automobile sector is expected to generate additional employment for 25 mn skilled youth of India in this decade.

National Occupational Standards

ASDC has taken pioneering steps towards development of Occupational Standards. For this purpose, ASDC is engaging the entireAutomotive Industry from manufacturing side,Engineering and R&D side, Sales and service side as well as in related domains like Driving and FuelPump Operations.

Considerable time and effort is being spent in putting together  Occupational Standards by capturing the exact needs of the industry.

ASDC standards not only cover technical requirements of each job role but also include critical topics like 5S, Safety, Quality, team work discipline, communication, IT, etc.

Already, ASDC has developed 125 Occupational Standards covering the employable job roles in the entire Automotive value chain and related domains.Thesestandards are available on the website link :

Training Centres offering courses as per ASDC Standards

Skill Development Training providers meeting ASDC guidelines with necessary Equipment, Tools, Classrooms and Trainers are being affiliated as “ASDC Affiliated Training Partners” for carrying out skills training Apart from class room covering knowledge sessions , these centres lay big emphasis on practical skill building.

ASDC affiliated centres are spread all over India.Nearly 400 centres run by our partners are offering courses in Manufacturing,Sales,After sales service &repairs,Engineering,Quality and R&D,Supply Chain & Logistics as well as in Auto Finance/Insurance,Fuel Pump Operations and Driver Training for Chauffeurs,Taxi Drivers and Commercial Vehicle Driving.

Starting from the first batches that were rolled out in June 2012 ASDC affiliated partners have trained nearly 2,000 candidates till date.With a large number of youth enrolling for various courses of their choice it is expected that nearly 100,000 students would undergo ASDC training and assessment within 2014.

Trained candidates are required to go through ASDC evaluation  for assessing their knowledge as well as practical skills they acquire in their training.These evaluations are carried out as per ASDC assessment framework.Successful candidates receive ASDC certificate which is recognised by the Government of India.Moreimportantly,since this is Auto industry’s own certificate therefore it provides a much higher chance of getting a good job in the exciting field of Automobiles.
